Scott DeLay – A Peek Into My Life As A Lawyer

Allow us to re-introduce The Cowan Law Firm, LLC’s Scott DeLay:

“My family has been in Northwest Georgia since the 1830s, so I grew up taking a lot of pride in the area and wanting to see it thrive.

In law school, I received awards for legal writing, trial skills, and was accepted into the Weltner Family Law Inn of Court. After law school, I clerked for Chief Judge William Boyett in the Conasauga Circuit, where I got to really dig into issues in our local trial courts from the Court’s perspective. This gave me a perspective on trial practice that most attorneys don’t have.

Family Law – Personal Injury – Business Law

Since law school and clerking, I have focused almost exclusively on civil trial practice, mostly in family law (divorces, custody disputes, adoptions, etc.), personal injury cases (motor vehicle collisions, hazardous buildings and properties, dangerous products, etc.) and business litigation (contract disputes, employment issues, shareholder lawsuits, etc.). We have a local bar association that is comprised of most of the attorneys and judges in Whitfield/Murray Counties; I am currently serving a term as its president.

I am a member of First Presbyterian Church Dalton, Rotary Club of Dalton, Conasauga Bar Association, Executive Board of Directors for the Greater Dalton Chamber of Commerce, past president of the Young Professionals of Northwest Georgia, past president of Dalton Education Foundation, founding member and past president of the Dalton Chapter of the University of Georgia Alumni Association, and Vice Chairman of the Whitfield County Planning and Zoning Commission.”
